At the solo exhibition Letter in April, in Kunsthal Vejle's RUM21, Jonna Pedersen invites the viewer into Inger Christensen's poem of the same title. The poem, written as one long travelogue from a temporary residence, deals with the everyday life of a woman and her child, and reflections on the repetitions of everyday life.

Pedersen has transformed RUM21 into the temporary residence - in an abstracted version, so that the audience can "enter" the poem. There is a "kitchen" installation where “the table” is set for a woman and her child, with toys etc. on the table. In the window to the outside hangs a painting, the motif being the kitchen table covered with flowers in a French milk jug. In addition, a "living room wall" with salon-hung works and an installation with a chair with personal belongings, suitcase, shoes and strewn clothes, as well as a "writing-thinking" corner. Everything is ephemerally furnished, like when you are on holiday and trying to feel at home.

The works in the exhibition are the artist's pictorial reflections on the poem, and express different situations and moods from individual stanzas, including repetitions. Jonna Pedersen has transformed the poem visually so that the works mutually communicate with each other in the room. Finally, she has picked the titles for the works in the stanzas of the poem, and thus a connection between the poem and the works emerges.

Pedersen has perceived the child as a boy, since Inger Christensen wrote the poem in 1979 during a stay in Paris with her son. A few works deal specifically with the boy. Pedersen has also included the French touch in several of his works, e.g., painted an original French milk jug with the words "Nous Deux" and has drawn inspiration from the French milk Marguerite.

The title Letter in April is expressed in several works that include letters postmarked in the month of April. A reminder that a travel letter is important to our understanding of who we are.

På soloudstillingen Brev i april, i Kunsthal Vejles RUM21, inviterer kunstneren Jonna Pedersen beskueren ind i Inger Christensens digt med samme titel. Digtet, skrevet som ét langt rejsebrev fra en midlertidig bolig, omhandler en kvindelig jeg-persons hverdag med sit barn, refleksioner over midlertidigheden og de gentagelser hverdagen indeholder.
Pedersen har omdannet RUM21 til den midlertidige bolig – i en abstraheret udgave, så publikum kan ”gå ind” i digtet. Der er en ”køkken” installation, hvor der dækket op til to personer, med legetøj mm. på ”bordet”. I vinduet udadtil hænger et maleri, hvor motivet er køkkenbordet dækket op med blomster i en fransk mælkekande. Dertil en ”stuevæg” med salonophængte værker og en installation med en stol med personlige ejendele, en kuffert, sko og henslængt tøj, samt et ”skrive-tænke” hjørne. Alt er flygtigt indrettet, som når man er på ferie og prøver at føle sig hjemme.

Værkerne på udstillingen er kunstnerens billedlige refleksioner over digtet, og udtrykker forskellige situationer og stemninger fra enkelte strofer, inklusiv gentagelser. Jonna Pedersen har transformeret digtet visuelt, så værkerne indbyrdes kommunikerer med hinanden i rummet. Til sidst har hun plukket titlerne til værkerne i digtets strofer, og således opstår en sammenhæng mellem digtet og værkerne.

Barnet i digtet opfatter kunstneren som en dreng, eftersom Inger Christensen skrev digtet i 1979 under et ophold i Paris med sin søn. Et par værker omhandler specifikt drengen. Pedersen har også inddraget det franske islæt i flere af sine værker, bl.a. malet en original fransk mælkekande påført ordene ”Nous Deux” og hentet inspiration fra den franske mælk Marguerite.

Titlen Brev i april udtrykkes i flere værker, hvor der indgår breve, poststemplet i april måned. En påmindelse om, at et rejsebrev har betydning for vores forståelse af, hvem vi er.
