travelling

Jonna Pedersen was invited as guest for the artist association Vestjyllandsudstillingen 2024, where the theme was Travelling. In her works, she has focused on the preparations to leave, as well as thoughts and memories associated with travelling. Time has taught her that she doesn't need to go to new places to discover meaningful things. There may be surprises in the memories of trips and places.

Presently, the artist works to mirror existence through well-known pictorial elements such as clothes and shoes. The artist is interested in how special clothes express values and attitudes and tell something about ourselves. In the painting Time Travel, each item in the suitcase refers to a person. For example the pink hat is Yvonne's from Olsen Banden, the bikini is used in a James Bond film, the blue suit is Elvis', the sunglasses are Elton John's, the tie is Ziggy Stardust/David Bowie.

In the period 2005-2013, the artist worked on depicting urban landscapes and human traces from big cities such as New York, London and other places she had exhibited. She has revisited her travel memories and incorporated them into her current universe. In Sofa Travel, she has used a memory from Malmö combined with a sofa, from which the mind can travel out into the world and the feet can dance in Bjørn Ulvaeus' boots. Kodak Ice brings together experiences from New York, and Are is inspired by stays in London.

Man siger, at klæder skaber folk.
