EFTER-BILLEDER
23 January - 21 March 2021, JANUS West Jutland Art Museum / 25 April - 30 May 2021, SAK Kunstbygning
Images do not arise out of nothing. There is always a history. The exhibition EFTER-BILLEDER is about the role models you have as an artist, either in terms of motive, technique, thematic, material, mood or in some other way. In other words, the exhibition focuses on the starting point of art and asks about something that can otherwise be difficult to talk about, namely artistic kinship. What legacy do you draw on as an image creator, and who do you engage in dialogue with? What has gone before and left its mark on one's work - both good and bad?
In this exhibition, 14 contemporary artists, all painters, give an exclusive insight into who and what has inspired them and thus shaped their artistic practice. The exhibited works are presented in a communicative framework that sheds light on their 'origin' and provides new perspectives on both before and after images.
The exhibition is traditional in that it only focuses on paintings. Spacious objects are deliberately not selected for the exhibition to make it easier to compare the different artists' use of models.
Participating artists: Anita Viola Nielsen, Annette Olesen, Astrid Marie Christiansen, Emily Gernild, Jonna Pedersen, Kristian Devantier, Martin Askholm, Matvey Slavin, Melou Vanggaard, Mia Nelle Drøschler, Mie Olise, Nana Bastrup, Simon Ganshorn and Simon Grimm.
The exhibition is organized by the artists Simon Grimm and Jonna Pedersen, in collaboration with art mediator Helene Johanne Christensen, based on a desire to give an insight into the importance role models can have for artists.
The exhibition is supported by: The Danish Art Council and the June 15th Foundation.
